As in the screenshot, she tells the player she tried to invite other regions' champions for an exhibition. This did not pan out.
Instead Honey volunteers to battle the player herself, using her own champion-grade team including whichever G-Max Kanto starter the player didn't take. IMO it's a fine trade-off. Not even a tease like some other examples.
