Ash resisted more than Pikachu in the first episode. Pikachu fainted after a few Peck attacks. Ash continued after receiving more attacks from the Spearows, then falling into rapids and swimming alongside while still running away from the Spearows and a Gyarados, then receiving more attacks while being on Misty's bike and finally taking Pikachu electric attack directly while it was raining. This only attack from Pikachu was enough for the Spearows and Ash finally reached the same state as Pikachu.
Nobody seems to fear Pokemons for their power, only appearances (Misty and the bugs).
