If only because I like Red having an Espeon and Green getting it instead is basically putting a hard cap on him ever having it again. Besides, Green doesn't need to be derivative of Red to stand on her own.
As for what her team would be, Let's Go is certainly on the table as something to consider. So Gengar, Kangaskhan, Ninetales, Victreebel, and Clefable are all good options. Aside from them, since Red favoured Kanto gift Pokemon, maybe Green would instead have a focus on Pokemon you can receive in Kanto trades. Mr. Mime, Farfetch'd, and the Nidos to name a few. Or toss a few Green/Blue/LeafGreen version exclusives in there (Hey, Ninetales already is one)
I don't necessarily think all those options suit her, but if we were designing her team from scratch, I'd take all of them into consideration
