making gen 4 onwards double battle-focused, with gen 3 simply being the introductory period
PvP singles are fine but it is not a format that allows for good gameplay against NPCs and there's a reason almost no other RPG out there opts for a 1v1 style

At the very least they could make the in game double battles better. It seems like half the time the trainers are using the same Pokémon.
