Gen 1 and 2 are the only games in the franchise that were actually well made for the time they were created, so I'm happy that they get the praise that they deserve. A lot of the criticism is levied through a 2022 mindset and the context of 6 generations after, but combined the two are a labour of love and passion with a focus on exploration and a concise narrative that never becomes overbearing or overstays its welcome.
