Reminder that all of Johto's problems would have been solved if

Half the Johto gym leaders would lose their entire teams if Kanto Pokemon were deleted, and the rest would have one Pokemon apiece (including Bugsy if Scyther was kept because of its relation to Scizor)

that would excuse a lot, since they'd be "the first games" / the trial run or whatever where they were getting their footing and bound to make some mistakes---it'd be a lot more forgivable for its flaws

Yeah, no shit Sherlock. But Johto is a solid mid-tier region so the superior Kanto got to be Gen 1. No sane developer would retcon their massively successful breakout game to make the sequel look better, that's pure braindead thinking, and would only piss off fans, not make them like Gen 2 more. Gen 2 is what it is. You want to see it treated better? Come up with some ideas on how that could realistically happen, email some Pokemon execs, at least attempt to make your whining productive instead of typing out the virtual equivalent of a steaming pile of melted grey matter, horse shit, and tears, and posting it here where there's enough worthless crap already

Literally half the posts on vp are about givng Johto leaders team with Johto Pokemon, especially since Gen ! Pokemon are allowed if they're related to Gen 2 Pokemon, even better if we get creative and don't limit ourselves to type
Here are some of the top of my head while keeping the amount of Pokemon on each team the same
>Hoothoot, Noctowl
>Ledian, Spinark, Sycther
>Clefairy, Miltank
>Misdreavus X 2, Stantler, Girafarig
>Heracross, Poliwrath
>Corsola, Skarmory, Steelix
>Swinub, Sneasel, Piloswine
>Seadra x2, Kingdra x2,
Most of these teams are objective improvements, the only real trouble came with Clair and Morty and that's due to Ghosts and Dragons being rare. And remember there are a bunch of designs from the actual Gen 2 beta that could be reused.

Johto has its own identity in this version, Kanto isn't needed. Due to being part of a beta, the Gen 1 mons aren't needed either unless they (Hell if anything CHARIZARD and the old Kantomons would be more valuable as rare collectables of a bygone era). And if Johto + East Johto is too big that makes it easier since it means less work, instead of having to add a whole second region like they did in the real GSC, they can just expand Johto slightly to keep expectations low for newer games.

What about Kanto makes it inherently superior, literally the only flaws Johto had are due to it being stuck as a sequel region to Kanto.

I mean, unironically, they made Red and Green to test out the concept and see if it will stick. Gold and Silver were their real big ambitious project since there was financial support behind now. That's why it was intended as the final Pokemon games and the ultimate vision of the franchise.

Easy, better Pokemon selection, and it was based on the developers' home. The map was one of the very first things they finalized. Kanto's layout was key from the beginning.

This is a strawman. Temporarily removing a number of Pokemon that anyone with half a functioning brain knew would be back in future games is not equivalent to a permanent retcon, period. And it's certainly not equivalent to retconning the entire first generation, the base that made them successful in the first place. Whether you think it was justified now or not (personally I don't care) Dexit was inevitable eventually, and it was inevitably going to piss some people off. What is not inevitable is erasing the very origins of Pokemon's success in a bid to make the less popular sequel region more relevant, which would piss even the most diehard apologist fans off. Dexit is a controversial move, but retconning Gen 1 is simply a moronic one that ultimately accomplishes nothing. And like I said before, it wouldn't even make Johto more popular, it would make it a pariah, despised by the fandom for being the reason their beloved Gen 1 was erased from existence. This drastically daft idea of yours doesn't fix all of Johto's problems, it just swaps them out for new ones. Johto is beloved by fans, but doesn't get that much attention from the devs, which is logical given that it was in fact a sequel. If your plan came to fruition, Johto would be jacked off by the devs for accomplishments it didn't deserve, while the fandom's opinion of it 180'd into rabid hatred, far eclipsing the negligence it receives now.

Not really, outside of the people who grew up with them it seems that most pokemon fans just see Johto as a small barren non-region with no idenity (what ever that means), no level curve (or too much level curve, they're never consistent), that somehow "butchered" Kanto, while having too much Kanto (wrap your head around that). The only region that gets more unfair shit thrown at it by fans Unova, but even then at least when Pokémon fans bitch about Unova its mostly seething that they had use Unovamons until the postgame. Meanwhile Johtomons are mocked for "being too shit for the leaders to use".

Then maybe they shouldn't have made it a sequel. Just do what Hoenn and every other region after did and have the region be stand alone. Considering how Hoenn is treated compared to Johto (remember Hoenn's starters got Megas and Survived DExit). It's easy to think that Game Freak/TPC hates Johto being a sequel (which I know makes no sense because they chose to make Johto that way) or hate the place Johto is based on (which again makes no sense because they chose to Johto's basis)

Isn’t Venusaur the best of the Kanto starters despite their boner for Charizard due to all the stuff it gets from association? Typhlosion would be shilled like crazy but there’s no reason to a assume Meganium would get nothing.
