The part before the first gym is fucking garbage for a type matchup tutorial that fucking Gen 7 fixed. So here's the rundown on what should be changed, which would take virtually no effort in a remake and a reasonable amount of effort in just a hack.
>Include the elemental tackles from Gen 7, that way the battle with Bianca and Cheren has more of a teaching element to it.
>For story reasons, you no longer get Pokeballs on Route 1 (which honestly was kind of a tradition up until this game anyway), and can choose to skip the tutorials to talk with Cheren instead of hanging out with Bianca who needs the catching and Pokemon Center tutorials.
>N therefore only talks with your starter Pokemon, which sets up an event like the one in USUM if you choose to bring your starter to the endgame.
>Route 2 adds Pidove, Zebstrika, and Roggenrola to the pool one segment early in order to spice up the first gym and put more emphasis on the type matchup element of it.
>The first gym is now a Triple/Rotation battle, depending on the version, in order to introduce this concept fairly early and give the player a lot of interesting type matchup choices.
The only other change I haven't mentioned is removing the Lucky Egg and replacing it with a menu toggle and/or saving it/the toggle for the postgame, which should resolve any issues it causes while keeping the story well balanced. With this I think BW is mostly fine, maybe add a cutscene skip button or at least the Paper Mario text system.
