ARM technology is evolving well enough not to abandon the hybrid format because anything beyond A78 punches well for its weight and Amphere microarchitecture or greater could give us some meaty looking-Pokémon games in theory. I don't think VR would make sense unless the screen resolution of the Switch successor in portable mode can handle it, don't think a separate module like the PSVR would be a practical choice.
Metaverses seem wasteful though, it'd be better if VR functionality was left for games, like a new Snap or a first person mode in a mainline Pokémon game, incentivizing players to use the Camp or Amie-type mode more, doing things like playing fetch with a Rockruff or petting a Zeraora. Online functionality might just be a repeat of Gen 5 did with C-Gear but nothing huge infrastructure-wise.
