For me it was Diamond. I still remember getting to jubilife and not really knowing what to do (I spammed A through the dialogue) so I tried to progress North but there was a cave with some rocks in the way. Apparently there was a Pokémon that could smash rocks, according to said rocks, so I caught all the Pokémon I could find and tried to use them to smash the rocks, to no avail. Eventually I gave up, and naturally I ended finding Barry in the trainer school shortly after, and holy shit I remember checking the map right then and being AWESTRUCK by just how little of the map I had explored so far. Fast forward a little later and I used rock smash to finally get past those darn rocks and remember exiting the upper exit of the cave and just feeling utterly exhilarated, like, hell fucking YEAH I just got past the first major road block I got stuck on and now I can explore all these new areas. My first playthrough of Diamond will forever be special to me for memories like this, these days I prefer GSC and RSE but DPP will always be the games I remember the most fondly
