The new games will have tons of references to history and culture of spain. How does one prepare himself to fully enjoy the experience?
I'm a history brainlet so it would be nice to know which events to check, which legends are popular etc.

No, of course they won't. There's the Sagrada Familia and Sevilla's main square on the trailer but don't you think for a second that a single person from GF has ever been anywhere in Spain other than Sevilla, Málaga and Barcelona. And expecting them to know anything about the country that the average person doesn't know is straight up delusional.
Toros, flamenco, paella. That's what you're getting. Conquistador evo for the duck MAYBE, one or two Quixote references AT BEST.
How many references to France are there in Kalos, besides the Eiffel tower?

I'm from France. Outside the Eiffel Tower and the menhirs, there was nothing about France. For example, Bretagne's houses weren't even accurate. They're supposed to be white with roof in slate. Part of France was missing. I was also hoping for a Dahu Pokemon.

While they have been trying to dial it up lately, I wouldn't put too much stock in the real-life references. There are going to be many things in these games that have absolutely NOTHING to do with Spanish culture.
