Pokemon can basically never be rebranded individually outside of giving them new moves or abilities due to the way stat growth and leveling up works
Theoretically it's doable but it's far more effort than GF would want to put in

They've altered stats, added typings and changed moves to pokemon before. No reason they couldn't do it more if they wanted to. But they'd rather focus their effort on attention-grabbing new forms and gimmicks to show off with the next game than regular rebalancing.

Mega Metagross was a downgrade. FACTS.
Happy Megas got removed(I hate cancermax too stfu) but kinda sad at the same time because Primals and Ultra Necrozma were cool.

megas were supposed to be a single generation gimmick, but thanks to gamefreak being actually useless at balancing they had to be included in SM/USUM to keep all the overpowered shit in check. Dexcut was actually a good idea in theory (but absolutely terrible in execution), but all the fucking faggots kept throwing tantrums so they brought most of the shit back in "DLCs". All that fucking shit company had to do was say "some pokemon cant live in the galar climate" and they would be free to just fucking not include them anymore. Now with SV we're gonna hit a 1000 mons and that is just too much

Gen V broke the dam. 493 was good number (maybe add 7 more to get to 500). After that, they should have focused on regional forms.

Metagross is fine. Metang is a fusion of two Beldum, and Metagross is a fusion of two Metang. Makes sense Mega Metagross would, being a Mega and not a full evolution, be a fusion of Metagross and a Metang (and not two Metagross). Hence the pointy goatee

megas were mostly fan favourites, most people like metagross, mence and ttar, garchomp over your common shitmon; that being said there were odd cases like banette, and well fucking glalie; gallade and gardevoir get both megas, yet froslass for some reason got fucked
