It's ok. The level curve is pretty bad and there's a bit too much dialogue and handholding for me.
I agree that it's the last good Pokémon, but HGSS really was the peak and the downfall began with BW.

The first few hours of this game is kinda shit.
The plot of BW1 is more engaging, at least I think so.
But it does pick up around the 4th Gym.
Post-game has a-lot of extra stuff to do.

How? The difficulty is on par with gen 3 and harder than gen 1 and 2. The post game is fantastic. They force you to catch the cover legendary which is kinda lame. Although there's other legendary pokemon to catch later. The dex feels restrictive but it feels good to step out of your comfort zone. They also removed the dumb gimmick mini games. Which mostly felt like a waste of time to be honest.

That would be Gen IV. Gen III was great, a fresh new tropical location full of varied but natural-seeming environments, with a novel plotline about an evil team attempting to use the power of legendaries to nefarious ends. Then Gen IV comes out and we now have a shitty flavourless region and six gorrillion legendaries with no personality to them, and it's now obvious that they're just going to rehash the "evil team tries to use legendaries to nefarious ends" idea forever. The engine ran like shit, the pseudo-3D sprites looked bad and aged worse, the physical-special split was poorly-executed, it was just bad all around. Emerald was the last Pokemon game I truly enjoyed.

I like each of the first three gens for different reasons. Gen IV was just a huge disappointment, and that's exactly when people started commenting, for good reason, that the series felt stale.

It was stale since 3, you are not fooling me. That's exactly why I quit, the fact they moved to gba (based greedy shits), you couldn't trade to any of the new versions your old pokemon and my nuked savefile from Silver which had the pokedex completed were enough reasons to fucking quit playing for years.

3 wasn't stale. Lots of completely new Pokemon lines, a new region with a different, tropical and colourful setting, contests and double battles, natures and abilities, the battle frontier, a new evil team concept, the game brought a shitton new to the table. Can't say the same about Gen IV.

The setting is the minimum effort they could put to make the game feel totally not like a copy paste of the other two gens. I dislike emerald and RS for this very reason, I don't like many of the designs. I am not super fan of gen 4 either to say.

You're oversimplifying. I mentioned all the new mechanics and features Gen 3 brought to the table to add to the basic formula, and how Gen IV just recycled all of that in a much more boring setting.

it's not a beginner friendly mon. if you're gonna use it, it is imperative that you get the brick break tm from the battle subway. if that's too much to ask, box it and grab a Magby or Darumaka. even if you can't trade to evolve it Magmar is good with or without an Eviolite and Darmanitain is a no-gimmicks powerhouse. literally no gimmicks, because it gets sheer force.
