After that it felt to me like they just rush you along to finish the game. There are some really cute pokemon, and some of the towns look great. The pokeball factory town right by the swamp with the goomy was my favorite.
The gyms are hit or miss, the champion is forgettable, the badguy team is fucking stupid and your "Rivals" are barely on the power level of a trainer from the same route. The only redeeming factor of the rivals is you can tell them to call you something offensive and laugh for a few minutes.
