That's what is so insanely baffling about Golisopod. It doesn't even have strong stats, yet for some bizarre reason Gamefreak felt the need to slap a crippling ability on it like it had stats on par with Regigigas.

Just reframe comp in your head. Replace "competetive" with "online", and then remember online spaces are mostly normies and twitter and reddit sand the perceived prestige of ranking up fades away. "I can't have a favorite pokemon unless it gets me clout against twitter checkmarks and zoomers" is the same statement as you said, but it shakes off the shine so you can more easily just like what you like without worrying about comp.

Back in gen7 I had it thrive on tge "All My Friends are Dead Syndrome" with a Bulk Up set having Figy+Leech Life for sustain since it actually has some staying power & reverse swept a decent amount under that mindset.

Sadly in gen8 Figy/pinch Berries were nerfed but nowadays HDBoots has made EE proccing less often a lot more manageable for throwing out multiple First Impressions/Aqua Jets but I'm sure that previous set could feasibly still work despite being less effective.

Sorry but it's not a cum-stained fursuit like Cinderace. Buffing an unpopular Pokémon takes Game Freak a lot of effort compared to a popular Pokémon like Charizard or Lucario with there movepools that are bigger than they should be.
