Red's one of the Battle Tree bosses, Ash can qualify as a Frontier Brain.
Red dismantled Team Rocket (and screwed their plans in a bunch of islands for good measure). Ash beat Lysandre and helped beat Team Flare (granted, it was a 2v1), then post-XY, also beat Guzma and Rose.
Red's in the Champions Tournament in B2W2's PWT. As of April 1st 2022, Ash is literally one win away from entering the PWC's Masters Eight. As for actual Leagues, they're both champions of at least one region each.
Red (presumably) has at least the entire Kanto Dex filled, implying he's got access to the 3 birds, Mewtwo & Mew, plus he's got the Kanto starter megas. Ash has a Melmetal, a G-Max Gengar & Mega Lucario, and has had access to a Naganadel, Solgaleo & a BB Greninja. Both trainers also have a (almost-unfairly) OP Pikachu.
So yeah, going by the above paragraphs of autism, they're on par with each other.
