Gengar in the games always comes off as much more terrifying than the anime ever can convey. Literally just barely able to be tamed and always struggling to not just accidentally kill its own trainer with curses or just devouring their soul. It's mega for literally has no interest in anything except what it perceives as prey, and it will try to take the lives of anyone and everyone.

Original Gengar is my favorite Pokemon
The Mega is absolute shit that erases all the charm of the original design
The G-Max is pretty great but something is off about its eyes

The GMax eyes don't look mischevious like regular Gengar, or even sinister like the Mega.
For me it's the tongue, though, I just don't like how noodly it is.
