For years, Yu-Gi-Oh! "fans" hated becoming attached to a particular summoning style and then watching that style get no representation in the newest anime. It was fine when they did it with Synchro Summons, but because Synchro became so beloved, a lot of people jumped ship when ZEXAL started and introduced Xyz. Just like with Pokemon, for a time, people were saying that Yu-Gi-Oh! had run out of ideas. Then Arc-V started and Xyz summoning coming back caught a lot of people's attention. Shortly thereafter, Synchro summoning was re-introduced and the hype was unimaginable. Arc-V turned out to be shit, but the point I'm trying to make is, acting like other summoning styles didn't exist was a major point of contention among "fans" for a long time. People prefer it when there are nod backs to the previous installment of whatever work in a franchise they're enjoying. It sort of validates their emotional investment in that story by making it seem more important. The passage of time, the impact of a character's actions on the world, it all gives everything a sense of weight that reinforces prior investment.
This is ESPECIALLY true in the case of Red because he represents the player character.
