Why does the pokemon anime have fucking three diferent openings??? (English Japanese Korean) In other languages they just use the English opening with different lyrics. The other 2 are exclusive to their country. Wtf

Same reason why any kids anime has a localized opening, they aren't being marketed as anime, but rather a cartoon to appeal to said country's demographic.

Cartoon Network used to shorten the OPs because they wanted more time for the ads, but I don't know why TPC keeps shortening them now that they're on Netflix.

Korea is an odd case where it’s difficult to market some japanese stuff because it is too japanese for them but they also don’t want stuff to be too western

Because 5yo kids can't sing along to a song in a language they don't know. In Greece we had ours dubbed too and it's nice. It's not necessarily better but creates a personalized experience. McDonalds is the same everywhere but you have a better connection to the local place.

There are plenty of anime cover artists that successfully translate songs to english without losing musicality. Doing an entirely new song is just unnecessary.

It's cheaper and faster to just tell the singer what's the anime about and then tell them to sing whatever than spending time trying to localize the original song

To cut costs. Why hire someone to write a 1:00-1:30 piece of music when you can just hire them for 30 seconds? It's the same reason 4Kids was dumped for a bunch of soundalikes.

The flops and awkward phrasings happen more than the hits. Sometimes it's better to just make new lyrics entirely with the same general message, especially with how "poetic" and cheesy Japanese lyrics tend to be.
