Let's be honest, he being oak's assistant had a lot of sense, because as a travelling companion he didn't aport that much. I mean, he is a good artist, and with a less extent, a good researcher, but those things don't have much use in a pokemon adventure, his wisdom is useless when things like the pokedex exist.
Is cool and a fun fact to know she is dating one of mosty sisters (the blonde one if i remember right)
