I used one when I played crystal most recently. I regret it. I love the design but its stat distribution sucks. Its slow and physically frail with only base 95 spatk for its stab. Also if you use the bill eevee it wont get any stab besides fire spin til level 52 unless you shell out 110,000 pokedollars for fire blast. It can kind of take special hits well I guess. And all those non stab normal moves and shadow ball hit kinda hard off its big attack stat. But yea. It's just not a good pokemon. Great design though.

Used in a Gen 1 run, hits harder than Arcanine. Sure, it's slow, but between taking special hits better and knowing Quick Attack while Arcanine doesn't know Extreme Speed yet warranted a chance to try Flareon out.

I was going to try using it in Legends since I needed a 6th team member and already used a lot of Sinnoh mons but it only has Fire Fang again lmao. Only coverage is Iron Tail, Shadow Ball, and normal moves. At least it's better than Water Pulse only Vaporeon

It's a great support mon in Colosseum, sleep powder, mega drain, cotton spore, and either tackle or synthesis depending on if you prefer more healing or dealing damage in a pinch makes catching shadow pokemon while something else handles knocking out the rest of your opponents team.

I just did with PLA since you can fill up on Eevees before the tutorial really even ends.
My results were pretty much in line with >>50175260 especially cause of in the game that they introduced a fire variant of Outrage... They didn't give it to the frail, slow physical fire attacker.

They really should just swap it's speed and special defense one of these days. Or speed and special attack. Either or.

Flareon is not a bad pokemon for ingame. It has 95 base special attack, it still hits hard using strong moves like flamethrower and fire blast, which are almost always buyable tms. When you're going against npc pokemon that don't have EVs and are frequently NFE, 95 spatk with a 95 power move is strong. And of course its coverage hits hard coming from 130 attack. 65 speed is still a major problem, but it also benefits from npc pokemon not having EVs. A level 50 flareon with 100 speed evs and a neutral nature can outspeed a level 50 npc pokemon with up to 77 base speed.

It's a sweeper. I'm so tired of you casuals writing off every Pokemon that isn't a brainless uber because it requires a single prediction.

People cry about Flareon being suboptimal in gen 1 and forget it had fucking fire spin.

Ever since the special/physical split it's been a perfectly viable sweeper that received buffs and new physical attacks in every iteration.

Why is pokemon plagued by such lazy thinkers? Then they cry and act surprised when their top tier team gets stuffed a 2 move combo.

I used one in my Heart Gold playthrough. The games are so easy that you can use sub-optimal Pokemon and still have no trouble.

Only things that MIGHT have legitimately never been used for a playthrough are obscure middle stages like spewpa or klang that are either quickly skipped over for their evolutions or ignored entirely. Everything else is either easy enough to get a hold of early that even if it's not intentionally planned someone would have used it for their whole run, popular enough to seek out, considered unusable enough to be chosen for a challenge, or have some niche/gimmick that makes it a fun choice.

The best psychic in gen 1 is a grass type. Not only is Flareon not bad, he's a hard counter to the prevailing meta.

130 base attack is good, it's speed could be better but after a flame charge it should be outspeeding anything you'll see in game, and both flash fire and guts are good abilities.

It's my go-to Fire-type in Gen I-III.
Can use the bunch of physical moves inherited from Eevee like Shadow Ball, Dig, Headbutt or Quick Attack + 95 Sp.ATK is still good enough to use Fire Blast or Flamethrower.
