It's because Nintendo hardware is dogshit and I'd rather enjoy my comfy 8 inch 300ppi handheld screen over the tiny pixellated trashfire that is the nintendo DS two screens, along with its tiny unergonomic controls and shit resistive touch input.

If you have a flashcard you can trade from a rom save to a legit cart. The only real cartridge you have to buy is a single gen 5 cartridge so that you can use the Poketransporter to move it to Bank. At that point, you can transfer it to any 3DS game, Home or SwSh.

Because games used to be fun without the needing of multiplayer. Of course after gen 3 this isn't applicable.
This is my saved game of Silver with 100+ hours and complete dex without gamesharks. Sometimes when I'm in the mood I just walk around Saffron and breed for Stadium, which is also in my phone. Niggas keep seething.
