The real reason is that Gen 1, 2 and 3 all had excellent '3rd' versions. So because Platinum is the Gen IV 3rd version, people assume it's as good as the other 3rd versions, which it isn't.

Right, Yellow is better because better sprites and some glitches fixed.

GS was already good with very few flaws (the ones that get shilled here have been proven false time and time again) and Crystal pretty much corrected those flaws. Crystal is the perfect Pokemon game.

The whole “johto distribution is bad” meme is wrong, but how can you reasonably expect people who have stadium. There is no reason to assume to people with a cheap handheld to play GSC would have a far more expensive console to play Stadium.

Unlike Sinnoh which has a totally independent identity, doesn't have a bunch of Kanto shitmons on almost every route, doesn't have Oak, doesn't have a large number of Kanto evos in its Dex, etc.?

16 in GS
22 in Crystal
18 in HG
19 in SS
Plus a couple more on those last two if you use a calculator to get Primo's egg passwords
Which even for GS is better than literally every game until XY when encounter bloat started happening

Because a-lot of people played the DS, and that playerbase has the strongest voice. It was also reasonably fun for both single player lorefags (with all of Sinnoh's Mythology) and people who play with their friends (since it was the first WiFi game).

Timescale is wrong. Gen 1 predates pokemania for obvious reasons, Gen 2 was the height of pokemania, Gen 3 was when the popularity started a rapid descent, and Gen 4-5 were when it was at its bottom. Gen 6 is when it started to climb again

Gen 1 is weird because the west never got the original games. JP Red and Green were the originals, and then JP Blue was the original third game. These all released before Pokemon was localised to the west. When they decided to localise, rather than bring Red and Green over directly they instead decided to remake them using the upgraded Blue as the base for both.

It’d be like if the western versions of Ruby and Sapphire were just reskins of Emerald with all of Emerald’s content and bugfixes, just with the pokemon distribution changed to match Ruby/Sapphire.
