>>50193389Volcarona is a combination of the largest moth species that lives in North America with old native-american style animal god myths (it's was worshiped as a solar deity in the past and you find it in a buried temple that once was dedicated to it), beyond that the Ice Cream line was inspired by american food mascots like the Pillsbury Doughboy and the Conk line are just basic average joe construction workers who go from young kid to adult worker to ripped old man. And there are more obvious examples, from Lilligant, Braviary, and Bouffalant, to more simple ones like Sawsbuck, Swanna, Cinccino and even Zoroark fits well in due to Coyote (the mythical trickster spirit who can appear as both a coyote and a man). Yes, Zoroark is also very much a Kitsune, but both are canids and the myriad of myths around them give lots to work with; Zoroark is a combination of the two.
I mean, yes, Zebras are not native to America, but in general the majority of Unova's dex is either firmly inspired by American things, are near identical to their American Counterparts, or share significant elements with said American counterparts.
Hisuian Zoroark is probably a version of Zoroark that leans more into the Kitsune-Part of it, normal Zoroark is more Coyote.
