First 2 gens i had all 3 but i only ever beat blue/crystal
3rd gen was sapphire but unintentionally i liked groudon alot more
4th gen was diamond because palkia looked retarded and dialga is basically the coolest legendary ever
Never beat 5th gen but i picked white version
6th gen was Y because i was waiting on pokemon Z but it never happened and that's what they had in gamestop
7th was Sun
8th was sword for no particular reason
9th im getting both

Kinda regretted it because I preferred Sandshrew, Meowth and Vulpix over Ekans, Mankey and Growlithe, but I didn't know about the exclusives back then. Eventually sold it and got Yellow.

My friend bought Pearl on launch but I was so disappointed on the framerate and battle lag that I decided to wait for the third version hoping it would fix that. Worth the wait.

G1: Yellow tough shit if you don't count it cause i was a poorfag at the time so i only managed to scrounge up enough cash to get it and a GBC a bit after it released due saving since before Pokémania even started.
G2: Emulated a machine translated Gold before the regional release Bought Silver, Lugia cool, Ho-oh Lame.
G3: I got Sapphire as a gift as my family socio-economic situation took a dramatic leap up around this time, i wanted Ruby but it was not stocked locally and no one likes choosing beggers, Emulated Fire Red and Emerald when they released cause that was around when i figured out VBA existed.
G4: Diamond, Dialga looked cooler. This is also the only Pokémon game i ever sold. Figured out Flashcarts Which is why i sold Diamond for Platinum and Soul Silver cause Lugia is cooler, Latter bought HG for the hell of it.
G5: White and White 2, first on Flashcart then bought them properly.
G6: Y, i then ended up getting X too in a bundle for my 2DS, but Y was my first choice and X was just incidental I think Y works better for the Narrative with the Ultimate Weapon then X., Went for OR cause as said, Ruby was my original intention back in the day.
G7: Sun and then Ultra Moon and then Eevee cause i already did Yellow.
G8: Shield, Zamazenta is cooler, No real regretts other then getting ucked out of Klara, but i wouls still picked Shield knowing about her.
