The hax you need is unbelievable and the CPU cheats in the literal sense of the word: it gets Pokémon at higher levels (while you're stuck with minimum level rentals), it often has better movesets and it uses Pokémon YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO RENT. Imagine going to the Battle Frontier and some enemy trainer pulls out Groudon while you can't bring your own Groudon.
Then again, I am playing the game with a few self-imposed restrictions: no accuracy/elusion moves, no Legendaries, no Tauros and, most importantly, no Psychic types.
