Because CHARIZARD and other shillmons get to have STAB, Perfect Coverage, Amazing abilities, and special snowflake forms that power creep the game and make everything else worthless. Other Pokemon should at the very least be allowed to have good STAB options

Because the more damage multipliers you have, the better an additional multiplier is. Stab is better than no-stab, but add things like damage boosting items, super effective damage, damage boosting abilities, and weather boosts and you'd be stupid not to build around a stab move.

I'm going to assume that you're making fun of a hypothetical zoomer reaction to that presented information. If so, this was a good example to pick, because at a surface glance with no context, it looks and sounds ridiculous,

but as someone who has played gen3uu and gen3ubers, I can assure you readers that this is a competent set, at least as far as smogon competitive goes.

I won't explain unless it's necessary, but all of the choices there are valid for competitive play.

The thing is that Smogon analyses don't even really have writers anymore. We just got done making an entire set of tiers for BDSP metagames, and as far as I am aware, only OU's dex has been even attempted to be filled.

There just aren't many or any contributors at all, let alone ones with a semblance of personality / character.

Anyway, like I said, GF didn't balance around this properly. Like, all the elemental punches being special attacks? It's almost like they forgot how their own mechanics worked. Mons like Hitmonchan were entirely shafted because their shticks were gone.

For proof; just look at the Dark-type. Before the split, Dark was special. But in Gen 4, every Dark-type move that was previously special became physical. Bite, Crunch, Faint Attack, etc.

Y'know... why make mons like Gengar special attackers in the first place? Just to gimp them? It's weird.

I say this as someone who has written an analysis before and as someone who has attempted to write more- the system they set up is really frustrating. They announce new slates completely at random and its first-come-first serve, I bet hardly anyone even knows when new analysis come available. The process also takes a fuck ton of time, and most of that time is just waiting for QC checks. They are super sticklers for formatting, too.

I tried writing an article for the Flying Press but it literally took more than a year because I just was constantly waiting for the shit to get reviewed. I get that they need to check for quality but it's not exactly like they've set up a great system for pumping this things out. It's pretty embarrassing that we are about to get into gen 9 and plenty of OU mons barely have anything.

It's useable for lead; hits Steels, Dragons, Flyings, Grasses, Swampert, and Blissey

All of those moves are available for Gengar, Crobat and Dragonite in gen II. Brick Break/Focus punch could be substituted with Dynamic punch. Not sure why you would use the elongated wingull, I'd replace it with pinsir.

I would concur, although I also cannot confirm without a doubt. If anything it'd be in the manual though, which I doubt anyone has ever read.

If you go to the national dex as of Gen III and sort by Special Attack, you'll notice there are very few, almost none with a high stat that can't make proper use of their STAB
So to say, they didn't make mons like Gengar special attackers; it was an exception.

It's not a distinct set, the only mixed TTar set on Smogon has Rock Slide and Crunch as potential flex options along with Ice Beam for the third moveslot. Same shit with Gyarados and HP Flying, it competes with Rock for the HP slot. It literally takes 5 seconds to Google this shit. I actually play the game so I understand the distinct purposes of those move choices, which is also why I know the whole "uhm BEFORE the split using mons without STAB was good and the split ruined that" is bullshit because A) if those mons could use their STAB viably they would (hence why TTar's STAB options were edited out) and B) there's Pokemon to this day that don't use STAB (granted they're usually defensive mons. but still.)

Dynamic Punch is strictly worse than Brick Break and Focus Punch. The fact that it's the best Fighting type coverage move in a gen dominated by Normals, Rocks and Steels is travesty.

the anti-splitfag has no knowledge of how the metagame actually works and blame all smogon tier drops between gens 3 and 4 on the split instead of things like new counters, new moves, abilities, items, etc.
the one piece of "proof" they always fall back on is salamence getting banned to ubers in gen 4, which was primarily caused by life orb rather than the split.
