I agree. This was also when it was decided that the franchise would continue for as long as they could get away with. So there was less attention paid to worldbuilding questions like "Where did all these new Pokemon actually come from?" (although they at least paid lip service to the idea in Gen 3 by implying that Hoenn was far removed from Kanto/Johto)

There was definitely soul remaining in Gen 3 and even 4, but there was a clear shift in design philosophy and the perception of how the Pokemon world actually worked.

I disagree with the rest, but I kinda agree with this. It feels like it has more thought put into it, emphasizes the sci-fi feel of early pokemon a lot, and I'm a guy who usually likes fantasy

Dogshit opinion. Gen 3 is still soulful since it's a new director. Gen 4 is when Masuda starts ripping himself off. Gen 7 has a semblance of soul again and also PLA but all the rest are just Gen 3 copies.

Diamond & Pearl. The artstyle changed, artworks weren't Sugimori watercolor anymore, Pokemon designs got too humanoid/edgy, cartoon-like to appeal to western audience. I hated most of the designs back then, it took a long time to enjoy most of them.

Pokemon lost its soul to me when X and Y rolled around. I can't even explain it but my little middle school brain just couldn't connect with it the same way it did with every other pokemon game I played. Pretty much. Gen 4 is where they ran out of ideas. Everyone pretty much agrees on this. Pokemania was still going strong in my country well into Gen 3. I'd argue Gen 3 was actually the peak of Pokemania here but Gen 4 irreversibly killed it.

Not really. The cutoff from Gen 2 to 3 only really happened in Anglo countries. The rest of Europe and Latin America still had Pokemania going strong well into Gen 3.
