You can use it to see what pokemon can be found and which still need to be caught, and it tells you if there's pokemon you haven't seen at all that can be found
It's really cool for completing the pokedex while playing and fun to complete each area you go to. Also useful for anyone who wants to know what they can find but doesn't wanna/can't Google.
If you've played oras it's like how the dexnav shows the pokemon in each area on the bottom screen except you have to go to the pokedex to check
