>>50215469>Why is it so bland and forgettable?Actually relevant to me, because Gen 3 were the game that burned me out on Pokemon, and where I dropped the series.
I really loved the QoL improvements over Gen 1+2, and honestly the new Pokemon were as much a mixed bag as the Gen 2 additions.
I recently pulled out my old GBA to see where I was and what I was doing. It looks like I quit while levelling a Charizard after hatching dozens of eggs. I assume I was after certain IVs, or a particular Nature or something, but I really can't recall. It looks like I got all the Legendaries I could, but I definitely recall wanting to avoid them because everyone used Legendaries and I thought they were boring.
>>50215481>Half the routes are surf routes only where you encounter only 2-3 types of pokemon. This definitely sounds like my experience. It made the second half of the game a real slog. I'm of the opinion that HMs should be used sparingly, like keys, to open a new area, which can then be explored largely unhindered, and not a way to mire the player in the bloody menus.
>There are too many legendaries which don't involve interesting stories or quests to obtain themTotally agreed. Legendaries stopped feeling like Legendaries when you could get more than a dozen of them, several of which were part of the main story, and the rest were largely just go to XYZ location and battle them.
>The music is horribleDisagree. It's not as iconic, but the GBA's signature hiss aside, it's mostly easier on the ears.
>the villains are retarded and a poor mans environmentalist activistsThis. Also it's Team Rocket, but "thing" instead, which made the campaign a near carbon copy of the previous games, which I already played to death.
>>50215710>Because you have no love of adventureDiscovery and mastery are key elements of adventure, but as a returning player I wasn't really seeing anything new, or being meaningfully challenged.
