SM/USUM are way WAY better than X/Y
Kalos was a complete borefest - way too easy, generic progression, weak soundtrack, weak story, weak characters and shitty uninspired new pokemon. It was overall a forgettable experience. SM/USUM were refreshing and fun to play in comparison.

They realized that what pokemon had become was terrible and tried to get back to the quality of gen 5. Unfortunately it didn't work and much of gen 6's changes stayed.
