Abstraction becomes less and less believable the more high fidelity we get.
If they aren't willing to commit to the detail in 3D, something that Pokemon making the full jump SHOULD have done, then what's the point other than making more money via appealing to the lowest common denominator who obstinately refuse to touch anything that isn't fully 3D?

Look at how long the average anime battle lasts. Multiply that by the number of Pokemon being used. Obviously some battles are longer or shorter than others, but the point still stands.

If it's not canon, then why do both GF and TPC regularly visit OLM to make sure the anime is a 100% faithful and accurate depiction of the Pokemon World to avoid blunders like The Horn or Thunder Armor?
Surely in this modern day and age OLM wouldn't be allowed to explain how Pokemon Moves work if it's not canon as seen in pic related (JN103), that's misrepresenting the brand and could cause irreparable damages.

Smaller teams = everyone is on the same page, the only issue with gamefreak is that they are overworked and have no deadline leniency.
