Yes. The only good storytelling in Pokemon is when they dripfeed the story through diary entries (like Pokemon Mansion and Sea Mauville).

good story in a game is so rare that it really doesn't warrant having such a large focus in so many games. for every planescape torment there's thousands upon thousands of pure garbage
the approach in games like dark souls or metroid prime is that the story itself is likr a collectible. a player can take the time to piece things together and get invested, or just blast through everything. Games that require you to sit through hours of bland annoying cutscenes are a plague and dark souls will be forever based for providing a popular alternative

That's not story, that's shit that already happened, aka backstory. Backstory and lore are the icing on the cake, not the cake itself. They're worthless without an actual story to back them up.

dark souls has all of these, and they happen to be good, but you have the choice to put effort into finding out what's going on or just ignore it
since 99% of games have dogshit writing, it is preferable to have that choice, rather than being forced to sit through garbage and unskippable cutscenes

It really doesn't. You're confusing backstory with actual story. Most of the important shit in Dark Souls already happened; and that's another bad trend Dark Souls popularized, throwing into you into a dead where everything already happened, and all the important characters are already dead

I'm on my first playthrough, haven't finished the game and my last save was a long time ago. I had rang 2 bells and I do remember talking to the giant snake; went down and I think I saved before New Londo (was that the name?). Anyway, what can I expect next? Am I still far from finishing it? Haven't completed much of the DLC content other than the first boss fight iirc

Not really, there's nothing inherently wrong with straight forward storytelling, nor something inherently better by telling you the back story through entries.
Not to mention those kinds of things require more reading comprehension so I don't understand why /vp/ creams over them.

>arceus, the unown and his thousand arms
>the canalave library
>darkrai and the b2w2 strange house, the ghost girl on the bridge
>guzzlord's world in usum
I'm sure I missed some of them, but imo these are the moments that make the world feel fascinating and mysterious, not the countless waifubait gym leaders and sidekicks, the formulaic beat the elite 4 and save the day shit, or anything else

XY is a perfect example of this. A-lot of Kalos' history is explained more thoroughly through things like the Art Museum, the Parfum Palace or in Lysandre's old journals. Things that the average player or child is not going to read through. And then we ask for Pokemon Z to fill in some blanks.

What about a region where the legends were sealed/"killed" because they were too dangerous or powerfully unhinged? Sorta like Eternatus but with Weather Trio level of cataclysm powers. Make the legends feared because they are "evil"
