>>50241209Games have been receiving DLC/patches since the 90s. Even Game Freak themselves issued a patch to fix some bugs in the original Red/Green versions which is why there's a v1.0 and v1.1. The only difference back then is that they obviously couldn't update older cartridges that had been sold, so only the new cartridges had the latest version.
Game Freak had zero excuse for not patching XY since the 3DS has the ability to patch and update games over the internet. The only reason they didn't patch XY is because they wanted to move on to development for gen 7 in time for the 20th anniversary in 2016. The fact that gen 9 is being released this year strongly suggests they won't bother patching SwSh, since that will almost certainly become the new main game for competitive play once it releases and there will be zero reason to bother transferring those Pokemon to SwSh.
