Sheer luck. It's common for it to fail to find a partner... Only way to consistently and easily find PvP battles is via Y-Comm link battle request.

But everyone playing PvP on battle stadium is autistic and using cringe rental teams for the sheer purpose of winning. Not for reasons of personal enjoyment or love of Pokemon.
