I know this will be unpopular, but probably USUM. Large dex, tough battles, and decent side content are what a replay needs, and they have it. Also the benefit of not having to deal with HMs counters the increased cutscenes IMO because it does tons for team variety.

i've enjoyed randomizing my pokemon black runs since it has pretty good variety
if vanilla, x and y is pretty fun since there's a ton of variety for challenge runs like monotypes. just wish some unimportant rival battles were cut off and the gym leaders had more than THREE (3) pokemon
