Pokemania ran for a couple years, which is pretty long for a fad. I think it died a little before or during Gen II
- The normies got over it, & the normie hivemind collective declared it uncool. Only outcasts & weirdos like you & me were still into it.

- Yu-Gi-Oh replaced Pokemon as the in-thing, with Beyblade helping a little bit.

I Agree with most of the latter comments

but putting aside the degeneracy of occidental culture, I think pokemon had like 2 or 3 big moments

the first fad that lasted until 3rd Gen arrived and people who lived it is now in his 30s
the second one I guess was with 3rd and peak in 4th Gen (people who lived it are now in his 20s)

And I guess that 6th and 7th Gen bring back again pokemania to a newer generation (people that now has between 11 and 16)

Of course every fad was smaller than the latter, but the number of total pokefans always increased and so did the numbers
