Gen 5 or 6 because they feel like big cities and still have stuff to return to. Goldenrod is cool though.
I wish the next Kanto remake would make Saffron city bigger looking.

I've only played Gen 6 1.5 times to I can't really recall too well but I didn't really enjoy that city. I think my favourite from the bunch is Castelia but I wish it had something else there.

Goldenrod is comfy but limited by it's age and was not made any bigger in the remakes.

Lumiose is fucking TERRIBLE to navigate and looks ugly as sin.

To me the only ones that actually felt like big cities were gen 1 and 5. Gen 5 actually only felt like a corner of the city but gave a big impression. Gen 1 felt like a whole big city with buildings blocking view. I wouldn't even be able to tell the other ones were big cities from the map alone.

Lumiose was the best at really conveying the feeling of a big city, but at the same time, it was extremely annoying to navigate and I'd rather have less "realistic" cities than that.

Lumiose unironically. Don’t have any strong feelings towards Kalos but there’s a ton of stuff to do and I spent a hour on my first play trough just walking around aimlessly after the power outage was fixed

Castelia since it really went through the trouble of showing how much of a bustle the city was via the sheer amount of NPCs in the streets. Finding out you can miss getting your ice cream was a bummer but a great way of selling the lived in feel.

Best impression was Gen V. Most fun to explore was Goldenrod. That said, all of these are good aside from Lumiose and Wyndon, which ironically have the exact opposite problems from one another.

Lumiose is the most soulful city in Pokemon. Lots to do, between the cafes, boutiques, and side hustles for the player to earn extra money. It even takes the time to pay homage to its predecessors...

If they ever remake this game, they should give it a full 3D camera.

Hauoli is a good place with stuff to do but really it's quite small compared to others. And I mean small in content not in the mapping. Hauoli is friendly for newcomers.

Motostoke or whatever was called and Wyndon are that but worse. Beauty facades of a linear-to-absurd region. At least Hauoli had things to do.

I mean there's london eye but YOU CAN'T GO THERE.

Lumiose was a really big city. None other even compared since then and I hope that PokeBarcelona overcome that city.

All of them are bad because they have nothing to do and are all copy pasted buildings and interior and garbage. Lumiose is particularly bad. Celadon is clearly the best of the worst here.

i assume there's a lot of services that are easy to access for families there
also the church is unique and i don't think we've had one in any region since

I always thought of Hearthome as the "hub of Sinnoh. There's more to do than Jubilife City, and it has closer proximity to other maps (south is a shortcut to Pastoria, east takes you to Solaceon, west connects to Oreburgh and Eterna City).

Goldenrod no contest. It had everything you need either in or around it without feeling bloated. For what it’s worth, Lumiose is pretty cool with a surprising amount of stuff but it’s so unnecessarily bloated, it’s kinda proof that big =/= good, they easily could’ve made it smaller and cut out some unnecessary shit

Lumiose City felt large and it being difficult to navigate through was realistic, as stupid as it sounds. There probably could have been a better way to make it easier than the taxi system no one used. But being able to go through alleyways was neat. nuHoenn turning mauville into mallville was probably one of the worst massacres GameFreak has ever done, I'm surprised it's even an option here.
