>>50301850Conceptually I have no problem with Evasion. I do think however that it wasn't implemented as well as it should have been.
It doesn't make sense for the guaranteed-hit moves to be 60 BP, which is less now than even Knock Off with no item to remove.
It doesn't make sense for Keen Eye not to be immune to it.
It doesn't make sense for Double Team to not only be a TM, but to be a move pretty much every Pokemon can learn. And with the ubiquity of Toxic and Rest, it ensures there's a braindead simple winning strategy not a single Pokemon can't exploit.
It doesn't make sense for Roar and Whirlwind to have a chance to miss.
Again, I don't think having Evasion is necessarily a bad thing. But when you look at how much GameFreak spams it in their own games, like in the Battle Frontier facilities, you can see clearly that they were aware it was/is imbalanced and hard to outplay.
As for Evasion Clause, my opinion is half and half. I think "fun" as an argument is a poor excuse for excising battle mechanics and makes you look like you don't actually like the game; Pokemon is fundamentally RNG, whether you like it or not. There is plenty of counterplay to evasion in the games.
On the other hand, the counterplay isn't easy or convenient to slot in; and again, GameFreak displayed a disregard for it being balanced.
Overall I think it's a salvageable mechanic imperfectly implemented.
