Powder immunity, Grass is a very useful and hard to fit coverage type. Resists rock, resists electric and water. Overall the more handy resistances make the type usually better than Bug/Steel despite the additional weakness. Bug/Steel is still good, though. Probably the best of these three. Ground type that doesn't resist rock. Water and Ice are risky weaknesses to carry. Carried hard by being a ground type with ground immunity, otherwise fairly lacking in resistances. Carried hard by Gliscor, which would likely prefer a different typing.

Wow you trade your Rock weakness for Rock neutrality. Ground types typically have high defense and attack so guess what The Ground type will still wreck you with Rock moves, while outlasting your physical flying/fighting/steel moves.

3 immunites mean THREE types that Norma/Ghost gets a free switch into, while the only type combination in the game the resists its STABS is Dark/Steel

>STABS are strong against
>Fighting, Poison, Rock, Steel, Fire, Electric, Dragon, Dark
Flying/Steel, Flying/Poison, and Flying/Fire are the only dual types in the game that don't take at least neutral damage from either STAB.

Plus all ground types know rock moves which means that only Flying/Steel is "safe" since Flying/Fire takes x4 to rock, and Flying/Poison takes x2 to Rock.

This is a way better typing than flying/ground as it does not suffer a x4 weakness to one of the big 3 offensive coverage type (namely ice). The only weaknesses this type suffer are fire and electric moves which are rare as coverage types. Every single mon who had this typing has been top tier once.
>No grass/steel
The x4 weakness to fire moves and x2 to fighting moves is handicaping but easily coverable by 2 or even 1 mon. For these 2 weaknesses, this typing offer 10 resistances
>No poison/water
8 resistances to 3 weakness and an immunity to toxic. The only bad weakness is a x2 to earthquake but easy to solve with the addition of a grass type that also happen to cover the electric weakness, psychic is uncommon as an offensive typing
>Ice/ground even near this list at all
You would think that 2 of the 3 big offensive types would make for a great typing but only 2 resistances for 5 weaknesses (among them fire, water and fighting) means that it's hard to find opportunities to put this mon on the field since it has so little resistances and its not even that potent of an offensive typing since defensive steel types with either levitate or a secondary typing that remove the ground weakness can switch in and threaten this typing with either their stab moves or body press.

Honorable mention to flying/water whose only weakness can be covered by a ground type which is the reason why pelipper is so obnoxious to get rid off in rain teams.

Abilities are a factor that come into play in practice and those that offers an immunity are important to take into account in these threads

Pic related, it is not a garbage offensive typing and the rarity of its weakness compared to the weaknesses of flying/ground means ample opportunities to set up. Even in a format without HP ice many mons carry ice moves as coverage and the double weakness to one of the most common priority moves means that its often tricky to set up. That ice weakness make the type vastly inferior defensively to flying/steel and not that much better offensively since now body press is a thing against steel types.

Even taking into account the ground weakness its great because ground weakness is one of the easiest weakness to cover, add a grass/flying/levitate mon in your team and it's no more. Poison/water means access to scald and toxic which means that even if the typing is offensively bad, no offensive mons will want to switch in and risk getting crippled. This typing also beats defensive mons because toxic is a thing. You are only looking at the type chart and not looking at the bigger picture.

It isn't and precisely because of how hard it is to switch in this typing on enemies attacks due to its lack of resistances. You would need to rely on a pivot to do that consistently, whereas other offensive typing can afford to switch in by themselves.

They aren't as shown anything the grass type offer defensively can be covered by lando + a bulky water type save for spore immunity and the water type hits almost the same types SE but isn't resisted by half the types in the game
