These are fantasy creatures, they're allowed to be larger than the biggest real-world animal. Doesn't mean they suddenly changed how they work out sizings for real-world brains to understand. They wanted to make a Legendary-tier wolf, so they made it 9-foot tall, to underline its differences to the OTHER wolfmons. Not rocket science, that's the study of Zamazenta.
