if you mean that that specific dialogue makes no sense in context, then nah. it's very weird at first, but it serves its purpose of expressing an abstract and sorta counterintuitive concept.
many metaphors would've worked, any where you have one whole divided into two complementary pieces, like idk, a drawing on a piece of paper and the blank space of the paper surrounding it. but the genes were probably the most accurate, and one that cyrus would certainly talk about
