Gen 5 has so many great Pokemon it's a shame it's mostly known for le ice cream cone which let's be honest isn't all that bad and not any more offensive than any other objectmon. Scraggy, Emboar, Maractus, Darmanitan, Braviary, Haxorous, Archeops, Durant, Chandellure, Bisharp, Beartic, ect. Are all pushed to the side cause there's a funny little trash bag with a face

I never left. Gen 3 was the first gen that made me say "these aren't pokemon" but I've come around since then. Gen 6 and beyond have between 0 and 1 Pokemon per gen I actually like.

Same here. I know a lot of people criticize Unova's dex for remixing old concepts but convergent evolution is an IRL occurence and the new versions were almost always cooler concepts. I've gone on previously about how clever the Gigalith line is, the Munna line commits way harder to Drowzee's dream eater shtick and the Sewaddle line's story of coming out of one's metaphorical shell is a great spin on the usual three-stage bug.

Nigga there are like ten pokemon that are "not pokemon" and they most certainly aren't in gen 3 just cause you don't like it or have nostalgia for it doesn't make it not a Pokemon off the top of my head Necrozma and Eternatus aren't pokemon because they have no character to them but what you posted isn't any less a Pokemon than Pikachu

and the one i posted is the sole example of a gen 6 mon that i like. as for not liking gen 3 at first i feel like it has a lot to do with the official artwork changing style from the original watercolor look

Samurott is fine. It's got a lot of neat samurai history to it and plays up that otters/sea lions are utter fucking monsters despite their sweet appearances. Also its Japanese name translates directly to "Great Sword Demon" so they went all in with the old-timey flair.

I really cannot fathom this opinion outside of post-game matters. BW brought Pokemon back to its roots while simultaneously fleshing out and streamlining things from both a mechanical and story perspective. The Region Lock was the best thing they could have done to tell people to stop falling back on tradition and make some new friends and in turn, the entire Unovadex feels that much more special.

BW2 kinda misses that because it's trying too hard to appease people who didn't want to open up.

Based. Everyone has their favorites. I started with Red back in '97, but I really enjoyed Gen V's region and a decent chunk of its Pokedex. Eelectross, Druddigon, Chandelure, Gigalith, are some of my favorites. The dragon legendaries are pretty cool too, and have a cool as fuck theme and lore going on, but the other legendaries are terrible and probably some of the low point of the entire series. It was also the last Gen where I didn't immediately boxed the starters, now that I think about it.

I really do think this is the Boomer millennial mentality. I first played red back in 98 but now looking back on the franchise a lot of my favorites are in generation 5 and it's the generation I most want to go back to. Also the last generation a lot of my friends and I were still playing, the last generation where the community still felt pretty cohesive, and coincidentally the last generation that was not a simultaneous global release. I enjoyed generation 6, but other than fun surprises like regional forms becoming a thing everything since X and Y has felt disappointing

I remember thinking as well that a lot of them didn't look like Pokemon and being kind of offended, but then I came around and thought they looked actually pretty tough and badass and figured it was a sign the series was growing up since in general the Generation 3 designs definitely feel a little bit more grown up. Man, to be that naive again

I think you touched on something and it's the fact that people give generation 1 Pokemon way too much credit, maybe because they were there first. But as somebody who's been around since the beginning, a lot of generation 1 mons kind of suck. Are there more forgettable Pokemon from later generations? Sure. But Kanto has just as many, and so many of those designs that were cool 25 years ago just seemed kind of generic right now. I'm not hating on the games or anything, but compare a Pokemon like Dewgong to Walrein or Primarina and it just feels like generation 1 was checking boxes to get the game out while later generations had a little bit more time to refine the process

for me pearl was the first game and I still remember how excited I was when my cousin informed me i could travel to a post game region where I could actually catch several of the pokemon I saw in the anime. so what platinum did was a dream come true for my toddler self. not everyones been playing since 1997
