1st of all i completely agree with you, modern cards are WAY too overvalued
2nd of all the price determining the cards is partially because of the MSRP of booster boxes.
usually they were 80-90 bucks a piece for a booster box, now the price is firm at 140-150 for one.
with that being said, the pull rate of an alt art is about 1/6 booster boxes. so on average people trying to get one are spending about 900 dollars in the process to pull an alt art.
now thats not grounds to directly determine the price of the product, since they are pulling also many cards viable in the TCG, reverse holos, normal holos, v, full art v, vmax, secret rare, and alt art cards in the process of opening booster boxes.
there is plenty of product to flip so you can make your money back to acquire more funds to open more booster boxes. but it is a determining factor as to why alt art cards are overvalued, since the base MSRP is overvalued comparatively speaking to what it use to be.
you also have to put the blame on greedy sellers that are doing this.
