>>50323714>>50324233The big change people need to realize is happening with SV judging from how pokemon looked in the trailer is that they seem to be doing higher detail normal and specular maps and using a shader that allows those details to stand out more.
Seviper is a good exmaple from it.
Check out how the scales are visible on the navy part of the body, but only where the light is shining directly on them, with it fading out as it curves from the highlight. That's from a good mix of specular and normal. The color is still likely the same from the looks of it, but the detailing maps are higher quality and really sell a three dimensionality.
That Oddish is lacking that entirely. The leaves look super flat. The ridges of the pineapple look super falt. The whole thing just comes off as flat, which is similar to the older style of the games where they didn't do much with the detail maps (they were present, but not pronounced).
The scorpion thing does a good job with the specular of the lamp and the normal along the claws, but then Fuecoco looks like one flat, uniform lump. The light hitting it from the upper right moves across it super smoothly and uninterrupted as if it's got like no detailing on it at all.
Again it looks like the modeler there put real work into the scorpion but then got lazy with the fuecoco since it wasn't the focus.
