TMs are one use only (unless you can buy another) and just teach a Pokémon the move it says, a few have an out of battle effect but they are totally optional. It’s HMs that are necessary to advance the story and they’re a lot fewer in number. You also can’t naturally delete an HM once you teach it to a Pokemon. There is one slight exception to the TM/HM difference though.
You’ll probably want the TM for flash to make it through a certain cave unless you like stumbling into walls.Yes, there’s an exp share held item like in Diamond that you’ll get midway through the game, it requires completing a certain percentage of the pokedex though so get catching. Because of this it’s up to you how many Pokémon you want to raise. 6 is good for variety, more type options, or just
fun but you can beat the game with just your starter and HM slaves if you wanted to. It sounds like you don’t like rotating your Pokémon much though so maybe stick to less until you get the exp share.
