You are right. They did kill the franchise. Game freak put a lot of effort into these games and they didn't sell as well as they wanted them to. This lead to the area of new Pokémon which is shit. They redeemed themselves with BW2 but its evident they changed their game design philosophy after Pokémon black and white. I think pokemon BW are okay games as far as pokemon standards with BW2 being much better. I think everything that came after is shit except for ORAS and USUM however that isn't saying much at all.

These but unironically. Although you could argue that DP really turned Hoenn's formula into an established pattern, RS created what pokemon would become, and BW recieving backlash for experimentation locked us into it for the rest of the series. Many of XY's flaws are a direct result of small vocal groups' complaints over gen 4 and 5, and then good sales made Gamefreak believe that it was what everyone wanted.

what is this "Unova experimented" meme I keep seeing? All they did was ban the national dex earlier than SWSH did and give ytou a bunch of knock-off kantomon instead. Same boring formula otherwise.

Gen 1 started the game, Gen 2 gave us held items and day/night, Gen 3 gave us abilities, natures and double battles, gen 4 gave us the physical/special split...what did gen 5 give us exactly? It was the least creative of every gen and tried to cover that up with linear routes and a 2deep4u story that wasn't even interesting.

Unova was shit.

I'm playing this for the first time right now and while fun, i expected a lot more from all the unova bootlicking i see around. Characters are super dumb and just leave team plasma do whatever over and over, the encounter rate is ridiculous, twist mountain sucks and the worst of all - i'm kinda disappointed by the music. So far only liked the forest theme it plays in pinwheel, the not-pokemon tower theme, the gym battle music and the theme from that city where you can get the drummer and piano to play along. Rest is kinda meh and Driftveil City is honestly the worst pokemon music ive ever heard

Johto, Hoenn and Platinum Sinnoh all had larger Dexes than Unova.

Also, Unova's Dex is 90% fucking irredeemable garbage that is only defended by contrarians on the internet. At least Johto's shitmons had good designs.

I saw on that Reddit poll and even here that people don't really like BW as much as /vp/ would like you to think. Sure, they don't hate or loathe it, but most people tend to not to think much of it. BW2 is the really appealing one, and I'm not even sure how much of that is for the game itself, considering the only thing people really talk about is the PWT (which is a shame, mind you)

Aesthetics/UI wise I enjoy the gen 5 DS games. They’re just nice, something that doesn’t affect the 3D games until gen 8 since they finally left 240p. And I like the 3D games.
