The johto level curve meme can be disregarded when you realize red is the final boss and not lance. Thus a full team with balanced levels can be realized by that point.

In GSC at least if you have a full team you'll be around level 47 for red which isn't enough to beat him unless you planned your entire team ahead of time or use cheese strats, so you'll need to grind out 5-10 more levels which is a problem with the postgame level curve. HGSS increased the levels but also removed badge boosts which makes it a moot point since you end up in the same exact position.

And if we go by the logic the Kanto isn't postgame, then that means Kanto is part of the main game, meaning GSC/HGSS has the longest main campaign of any Pokemon game.

okay but that's not what people say. I would be fine if they said that, but Johto defenders constantly switch back and forth between "Red is the final boss, not Lance" and "Johto has the most postgame because you can visit Kanto".
and even if Red was meant to be the final boss that wouldn't make Johto's level curve good because your average trainer is still constantly 10 or so levels below your team.

True, Johto's problem isn't diffculty, its that wild mons and trainers give relatively low EXP meaning you have to grind a bit more the harder bosses, but even then you shouldn't need to grind up to opponents' levels to beat them because all Pokemon bosses are a joke compare to most other RPG's.

We call that a "true final boss", examples can be seen in Etrian Odyssey and Persona.

A TFB usually doesn't have the credits between them and the usual final boss. One that does is a bonus boss or superboss instead. Exceptions do exist, like Kaguya in Imperishable Night, but postgame is still behind her there.

How? If you had a dedicated team since the Elitie Four and used it for all of Kanto you'd be closer to level 55 at the very least. 57 isn't that out there if you do the Elite Four rematch before going for him.
