Now that Ash's competency has reached near Gary Stu levels though and he only loses when it's demanded by the plot, they needed a new target. Enter the kid who they hate for catching everything (despite, by game logic, this being a completely logical and believable feat considering that an in-game trainer can become the champion and catch legendaries within a 10-20 hour mark assuming you're not using glitches) despite the fact that they themselves would do just that in their ideal world.
