i think a canon team would be pokemon you catch that would seem the most helpful at the time
so for red, for example, a canon team would include charmander, mankey (which you catch to help with brock), geodude (to help against flying/posion types), oddish/victorybeel to help against misty, etc. and i would apply this logic at all the games. what pokemon would you realistically catch and use throughout the game to be the most useful?
