>at work around 2017-ish
>Pokemon Go was all the rage
>everyone on my team is talking about walking around catching all the Pokemon
>"anon, did you like Pokemon as a kid?"
>"...oh, uh, yeah actually I did, I still kind of like it now"
>"Oh wow I bet you have Pokemon Go downloaded too, it's amazing huh?"
>"It's not really for me, I prefer the mainline games"
>"...the what games?"
>"The Nintendo ones"
>"Ohhh yeah like Pokemon Red and Blue, man those games were great back in the day huh?"
>"At the time they were great, but by modern standards Pokemon Black and White or Pokemon Sun and Moon are much smoother with better quality of life improvements"
>"...oh, right...ha ha"
>he doesn't talk to me for the rest of the day, continues to talk about Pokemon Go with my other teammates
To talk about Pokemon socially, you pretty much have to find someone who is a nerd like you IRL, or you have to pretend to know less than you do, which is hard.
